The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
