The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Track

The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated adventure by Critical Role, unveiled a new opening credits. It features the beloved cast of misfits, outcasts, and criminals kicking ass and taking names, while teasing at several agonizing personal histories for key figures such as the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.

All in all, the intro looks stunning. However, I felt that something was missing in the music selection.

This sequence employs "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar song composed by producer and singer the talented musician. It's a track originating from the official score of the same name, the second one released by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label their music brand. It's a great nostalgic option, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will love its presence.

Personally, The series' opening fails to capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the second campaign's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", composed by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it only got better when co-founder Sam Riegel wrote words to the melody for the series' animated intro in the later year.

Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series at that point, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my phone. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you start an episode of fantasy hijinks.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the right notes for me. It's an impressive piece of music, but based on my understanding of the group, I can't help but feel that its tone is a little off.

Of course, the creators has already said that the animated show will have a few changes and differences from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its opening appears as one of them.

This animated adventure will be released on Prime Video from November 19. For those eager until then, or want a head start to get to know the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are available on the audio platform and YouTube.
