Paceman Atkinson Adds to England's Fitness Problems.
'Major setback' for the English camp after Atkinson goes off due to a hamstring issue.
Gus Atkinson increased the fitness woes of the England squad upon exiting the field during Saturday's play of the Boxing Day Test in the Ashes series.
Atkinson felt a problem in his left hamstring immediately following a delivery that he bowled on Saturday.
Team management indicated the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and required time away from the action to undergo evaluation "over the next few hours".
The concluding match in this Ashes battle beginning on 4 January gets underway this coming Sunday.
The visitors have been without fast bowlers Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer to a side strain on the current trip.
Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad as cover for Wood.
Atkinson struggled during the first two matches, claiming a mere a handful of scalps.
He was omitted of the third Test, only to be brought back for the Melbourne Test as Archer's replacement.
Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, taking two wickets with the ball, then making 28 while batting as one of just three English batsmen to reach double figures.
Post a single over in Australia's second innings, he returned the next day and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.
However, on the final ball of that over, he sent down a slower ball to the batsman and promptly felt at his leg.
Atkinson returned to the side for the fourth Ashes Test after being left out of the third.
